Lesley Ann Patrick
Graduating from the University of London with an Honours in French Literature, French Theatre, and French Art History, I discovered the Montessori approach to education during my first teaching post at the Ecole Active Bilingue in Paris in 1983. I subsequently returned to the United Kingdom to train as a Montessori guide in 1988 since which time I have worked with children in schools affiliated to the Association Montessori Internationale in Cambridge, Devon, and St. Andrews, Scotland. From 2001to 2010 I was Head of the AMI Montessori School in St. Andrews, Scotland for children aged 2-12 years.
In 2009 I further trained in the USA as a Montessori guide for ages 12-18 before moving to Sweden where I coordinated a Montessori Centre for Study and Work for ages 12-16. Leaving Sweden in 2015 I have subsequently worked with adolescents in AMI environments in France, Morocco, the United Kingdom, and India.
Alongside my mentor, Jenny Marie Hoglund, I have also worked at the AMI/NAMTA Montessori Orientation to Adolescent Studies in Sweden and in the USA, and currently on the AMI 12-18 Diploma Courses.
Inspired both by my own childhood years on the African continent and by the initiatives of AMI Educateurs sans Frontieres, I am especially dedicated to reaching communities of children, adolescents, parents and teachers in outreach work. This I continue to do both from my home in Scotland and with an initiative located in Kodaikanal, India.
I am the mother of five Montessori-educated “adult children” and grandmother of one who continues on the proven Montessori path of development.
