The Montessori Orientation Course for Ages 12–18 is an introduction to the developmental characteristics and needs of adolescents ages 12–18. It supports understanding of this developmental stage for parents, caregivers, school staff, or any individual seeking general knowledge about Montessori developmental theory and education. Successful participation in all Orientation Course Requirements leads to award of the AMI Orientation Course ‘Certificate of Completion’ at the 12–18 level.

The AMI Certificate of Completion does not qualify an individual to lead or hold any particular position in a Montessori Prepared Environment for ages 12–18.

Course Objectives

To offer an introduction to: 


  • The life and work of Dr. Montessori

  • General Montessori theory


To present an introduction to:

  • the needs and characteristics of the adolescent

  • the prepared environment of an adolescent community
  • the role of the adult in an adolescent community

Course Requirements

  • Twenty-five (25) hours of student engagement 

  • 90% attendance for all aspects of the course 

  • Completion of 2 hours of general observation of adolescents 

  • Completion of written reflection after the general observation about your shifting perspective (500 words) 

  • Students have 30 days from the end of the course to complete the observation and the reflection

  • Study and Work: The Educational Syllabus 

  • Importance of Supporting the Third Plane

Course offer by AMI Auxiliary Trainer: Lesley Ann Patrick

Raised in France, England, Morocco and the Ivory Coast, Lesley Ann Patrick went on to study French Literature and Theatre at Bedford College, University of London and to receive a PGCE at Homerton College, University of Cambridge. Discovering Montessori during her first teaching position in Paris, Lesley Ann trained in the UK and subsequently ran a Montessori School in Scotland. Having taken the NAMTA Orientation to Adolescent Studies in 2009 Lesley Ann set up a small adolescent community before moving with her family to work with Jenny Hoglund at the Montessori Centre for Work and Study, Rydet in Sweden. Lesley Ann has been involved since 2021 with Quinta Essentia Montessori Centre for Study and Work in Pondicherry and currently works with the Kodaikanal AMI Training Centre for Montessori Studies where her focus is directed towards outreach work in the area.

Eligibility

Candidates need to be 18 years or older. Candidates from all walks of life and from different professions are welcome. The course is open to anyone who wants to know more about the Montessori philosophy.

Total Fee Inclusive of GST: Rs. 14,000/-
