The AMI 0-3 Orientation Certificate Course is designed to provide an overview of the 0-3 child. It is useful for parents, guardians, and adults from all walks of life who are interested in child development in general, specifically for children under 3 years of age. The course offers an in depth understanding of Dr. Montessori's approach to education and an insight into the importance of observation. Course work will consist of lectures, readings, a few practical sessions, discussions, and guidance on some aspects of material making. The course highlights the important work of an adult as an assistant to the child's development.

Course Components
Theory Lectures
The course lectures will touch upon some of the main principles of Montessori education.
- Montessori theories of child development
- Development of language, movement and independence
- Preparation and maintenance of the environment
- Role of an adult in a child's life
- Observation and its relevance
- Freedom and Limits
- Importance of Order
- Toilet Learning
- Importance of Food and Food Preparation
- Grace and Courtesy
- Importance of clothing to aid development in various stages
- Music & Art for the young child
- Preparation of Home Environment in various stages of development
Practical Sessions
The course also includes practical sessions.
- Learning techniques for vocabulary building -the three-period name lesson
- Material making guidance
Observation
Observation of child under 3 years is a requirement for certification. Students will need to do a total of 9 hours of Observation of children 0- to 3 years. They will be required to write observation notes of their observations. More details will be shared once the course begins.
Assignments
Students will need to submit written work at regular intervals during the course. These assignments will include 3 theory essays, and observation reports. All assignments must be completed in order to receive the certificate.
Attendance
In order to receive the certificate students must have 90% attendance. Students with attendance below 90% will not be eligible for an AMI certificate. For the online class please make sure you have a reliable internet service that allows for you to have your camera on at all times during class hours.
If the camera is switched off during class, please seek advance permission, citing the reason for the same, so accommodations can be made on a case to case basis. In the absence of any prior information or permission, the student may be marked absent for that session.
Language
All lectures will be in English. Course work will be presented in English.
Certification
The AMI 0-3 Orientation Course Certificate is awarded to those who complete all the course requirements. In order to receive the AMI 0-3 Orientation Course Certificate, the applicant should:
- 90% attendance. (Presence required for 14 /15 sessions)
- Submit 3 essays as original assignments in own words.
- Complete the required hours of observation and submit Observation reports.
AMI Trainers
Vibhuti Jain
AMI Trainer
Originally an MBA graduate, Vibhuti Jain became interested in Montessori education while volunteering at her son’s Montessori School. She earned her AMI diploma at the 0-3 level in 2009 from Hangzhou, China. Subsequently, she set up the first Infant Community in a school in India where she worked for 8 years. Subsequently she joined the Training of Trainers program in 2017 and was associated with TMI Denver, USA; Chongqing, China, as well as the 0-3 Seminars at Vic, Spain. She attained her Trainer status in 2022.
She has served as Director of Training for 0-3 Diploma courses at RTI Mumbai, India, at BMI, China, and more recently at MSC Lagos, Nigeria. She has also served as an examiner in diploma courses at 0-3 level and has conducted orientation courses at various training centers.
She is passionate about working in the area of 0-3 Montessori Education and strongly believes that this is the foundation for a better world. She currently lives with her family in Bangalore, India.
Course Schedule
Course Venue, Schedule and Timings:
The Course will be conducted Online via Zoom. Google Classroom (GC) will be used for accessing and uploading assignments.
Dates: 5 weeks /15 online sessions as follows-

Week 5: 4-Feb-25, 6-Feb-25,8-Feb-25, 11- Feb-25.
Timings: 5-7:30pm IST with 15 min break
Total time: 60 hours plus 9 hours of observation
Synchronous-37.5 hours (Live sessions on Zoom)
Asynchronous -22.5 hours (Time outside of Zoom sessions)
Asynchronous time -22.5 hours (approximate break-up)
Readings-15 hours
3 period name lesson and material making guidelines-2 hours
Other assignments-6 hour

Candidates from all walks of life and from different professions are welcome. The course is open to anyone who wants to know more about the Montessori philosophy.
