The AMI Montessori Orientation and Assistants Course Adjunct for ages 3-6 years certificate courses are short term courses that give the participants an understanding of Dr. Montessori's Approach to Education. The courses are useful for parents, guardians, and adults working with children from all fields. It also helps interested adults work with children in a Montessori environment.

Course Components

Montessori Orientation for Ages 3-6years

The Montessori Orientation Course for Ages 3–6 is an introduction to the developmental characteristics and needs of children ages 3–6. It supports understanding of this developmental stage for parents, caregivers, school staff, or any individual seeking general knowledge about Montessori developmental theory and education. Successful participation in all Orientation Course Requirements leads to award of the AMI Orientation Course ‘Certificate of Completion’ at the 3–6 level.

Assistants Course Adjunct for ages 3-6 years

The AMI Assistants Course Adjunct for Ages 3–6 can be offered to supplement the AMI Orientation Course for Ages 3–6. It provides practical experience regarding the Role of an Adult as an Assistant in a Montessori Prepared Environment for ages 3–6. It offers an understanding of the pedagogical techniques employed in the Montessori Prepared Environment for ages 3–6. Successful participation in all Assistants Course Adjunct Requirements forAges3–6 leads to award of the AMI Assistants Course Adjunct for Ages 3–6

Format

The Montessori Orientation Course and the AMI Assistants Course Adjunct can be offered separately as standalone courses. When offered in such a manner, participants will receive the respective certificates upon completion of the course requirements. When offered as standalone courses, admission to the AMI Assistants Course Adjunct is granted only to those who have successfully completed the AMI Montessori Orientation Course.

The two courses can also be offered as an Integrated course. When the courses are fully integrated, the AMI Orientation Course Certificate of Completion and the AMI Assistants Course Adjunct Certificate of Completion will both be awarded up on completion of both sets of course requirements.

Course Content for AMI Montessori Orientation for Ages 3-6years

  • General Introduction to Montessori Theory and Education, with special reference to the needs and characteristics of the First Plane child.
  • The role of an adult as a collaborator and facilitator in a 3–6-year-old child’s self-construction and adaptation to culture.
  • The role of an environment in providing necessary conditions to support a 3–6-year-old child’s self-construction and adaptation to culture.
  • The importance of Observation: purpose, technique, and self-reflection, as appropriate for ages 3–6
  • The Absorbent Mind and the Sensitive Periods and their role in the child’s self-construction.
  • The Child as a Sensorial Learner
  • The Importance of Order
  • The importance of Movement and Language
  • Social Development and Social Cohesion
  • The Montessori concepts of Freedom and Discipline
  • The Development of the Will and the Three Stages of Obedience
  • The Development of Independence.

Requirements for Certification for the AMI Montessori Orientation to Ages 3–6.

Certificate will be awarded to those who complete all the course requirements.

  • A minimum of 90% attendance.
  • Completion of nine hours of Observation
  • Completion of required assignments

Course Content for Assistants Course Adjunct for ages 3-6 years

  • Understanding of the 3–6 Prepared Environment
  • Maintaining the Indoor and Out door Environments for ages 3–6
  • The Role of the Adult in the Montessori 3–6 Prepared Environment
  • The Role of an Assistant in the Montessori 3 –6 Prepared Environment
  • Observation to support the work of children and adults during ages 3–6
  • Spoken Language Activities
  • Movement Activities
  • Essential Grace and Courtesy in the Prepared Environment
  • Activities for Music and Art
  • Supporting Independence
  • Material Making

Requirements for Certification for the Assistants Course Adjunct for ages 3-6 years.

Certificate will be awarded to those who have complete all the course requirements.

  • A minimum of 90% attendance
  • Completion of required Assignments
  • Twenty (20) Hours of practical engagement, which includes
    • Presentation and Practice of Practical activities
    • A minimum of twelve (12) hours of practice along site Teaching Practice components in a Montessori Primary Classroom under the supervision of an AMI teacher.

Assignments

Students will need to submit written work at regular intervals during the course. Assignments will be submitted digitally or physically handed in. These assignments will include theory essays, material making, observation reports, guided reading task, teaching practice assignments. In order to complete the assignments, the student will need to have access to the required reading books. All assignments and task must be completed in order to receive the certificate.

Observation and Teaching Practice

Child observation is a requirement for certification. Students will need to do a total of 9 hours of Observation of children between the ages of 3 to 6 years.

For the Assistants Adjunct Course there will also be a Teaching Practice requirement that will need to be done in a 3-6 classroom led by an AMI trained teacher.

Attendance

In order to receive the certificate students must have 90% attendance. Students with attendance below 90% will not be eligible for an AMI Certificate.

For Online Classes, please make sure you have a reliable internet service that allows for you to have your camera on at all times during class hours. If the camera is switched off during class, the student will be marked absent for that session.

Language

All lectures will be in English. Course work will need to be presented in English.

Certification

The AMI Certificates are awarded to those who complete all the course requirements as indicated for the respective courses.

AMI Trainers

Teenaz Reporter
Director of Training

Teenaz Reporter is an AMI Primary Trainer at the 3-6-age level. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from the Osmania University, Hyderabad and an AMI Primary Diploma, from the Montessori Training and Research Trust in Hyderabad. After completing her primary diploma, she worked as a teacher in India and the United States. Teenaz completed her Trainers Training under the mentorship of Mrs. Lakshmi Krishna Kumar and Ms. Rukmini Ramachandran. As an AMI trainer, she has served on the faculty of the AMI courses in India and China. Teenaz is currently the Director of Training for the AMI Primary Diploma Course run under the auspices of the Montessori Training and Research Trust. She is also on the faculty of the AMI courses in Shenzhen and Chongqing, China. She has served as an AMI External Examiner in India and as a National Examiner in India and abroad. Teenaz is interested in creating awareness and reaching a wide demographic with regard to supporting the needs and protecting the rights of children everywhere. She is passionate about the role of Education in creating Peaceful humanities. 

Dipa Sreekumar
AMI Trainer

Dipa Sreekumar is an AMI Trainer age level 3-6. She is an Economics graduate from the Delhi University, and holds an AMI Children’s House Diploma, from the Indian Montessori Training Course, Bengaluru in 1991. After working for two years in Chennai, she took a break for 13 years. In 2005 Dipa started working as a Montessori Educator at Pebble Creek Montessori House of Children, Hyderabad. Within a short period of time, she took up the responsibility of running the school which had a strength of about 250 students. She has worked closely with parents and teachers in her career as head of the organization. Dipa joined the Training of Trainers Asian Seminar at Hyderabad. As part of her training she has spent two years at the Navadisha Montessori Foundation, Chennai under the guidance of AMI Trainer Ms. Rukmini Ramachandran. She joined the Montessori Training and Research Trust, Hyderabad in the year 2019 and is currently part of the Primary Diploma Course Training Team working under the guidance of AMI Trainer Ms. Teenaz Reporter.

Eligibility

Candidates need to be 18 years or older. Candidates from all walks of life and from different professions are welcome. The course is open to anyone who wants to know more about the Montessori philosophy.
